Prayer of the Village Church for New York Governor Spitzer
Rev. Sam A. Andreades prayed for the former New York Governor, his family and the state Governor’s House during our worship service from March 15.
Lord God, rightful and righteous King, You Who governs the world, hear our prayer…
…For Silda Spitzer, his wife. Just looking at her eyes in those pictures this week was heart-rending. We ask that she would find comfort in Bridegroom of our souls, and, in the midst of her rejection, to know Your love which is greater than any husband’s. And that this love would help her in the hard decision-making ahead of her now.
…For his 3 daughters. As they face the stigma that will now follow them for years, that they would look and see, through the failures of their father, their need for a Father who does not disappoint. And that the righteous anger they will eventually feel will drive them to You.
…For the women over these years that Governor Spitzer has bought. Even in high end prostitution transactions, each of these women were told that her gifts, freely bestowed upon her by You, to be freely given to another in a bond of commitment, that those gifts that make up who she is, can be bought. And because she can be bought, she isn’t worth much.
We pray that these women of the Empire Escort service would, perhaps even through these events, learn a different fact, how they are seen by You, the regard in which You hold them. That, even through these events, the Empire Escort prostitutes, and those of Greenwich Village, might learn a different story, of how valued they are in Jesus Christ.
…For Governor Spitzer, himself, that he would fully comprehend his grave hypocrisy and how many people he has betrayed, that these facts would bring him to his knees before You, and he would face the question, “Does he have One to make payment for his sin?”
We thank you for Governor Spitzer’s successful judicial work, especially against organized crime in the garment and trucking industry, and prostitution in Staten Island. We thank you for the goodness of these works, and how the garment industry is now better because of the work of his office.
…For Lt. Governor David Paterson, to be sworn in on Monday. We pray that You give him wisdom beyond his experience for the budget negotiations that he faces in the days ahead.
And finally, we lift up the saddened people of the state of New York. That we would not take refuge in the cold comfort of cynicism. But teach us the limitations of what the prophet, Daniel, described as the beastly kingdoms under which we live. Because of this event we long for the return of your Son, Who has promised us a Government to come with full justice, full consideration for the oppressed, and full truth. We anticipate this because we can have confidence in the full righteousness of its Governor, Our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Amen.
And Amen again. Thanks to Sam for this very appropriate prayer.
That was such a beautiful prayer. I hope you don’t mind I am copying it and forwarding to friends. I like it because I believe God will use it to help the Spitzer family and also help others. You really identify what the emotional state is for poor Mrs. Spitzer – rejection – exactly. I hope men who read it will understand when they view pornography (and lust after women who are not their wives) and have affairs they are REJECTING their wives. Also a good point about the prostitutes, yes, even though they are getting paid, each time the prostitute is getting the message you are not worthy of a committed loving relationship with a husband who will be faithful. Everyone is getting hurt. I pray that all CHRISTIANS who read this prayer will keep their pants on and keep their eyes to themselves not only for their own sake but for the sake of their wives and children. Be faithful everyone!
