Deuteronomy 5:16, 6:20-21; Ephesians 6:1-4
16 “Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the LORD your God is giving you.
20 In the future, when your son asks you, “What is the meaning of the stipulations, decrees and laws the LORD our God has commanded you?” 21 tell him: “We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand.
1Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2“Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3“that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” 4Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

I just listened to this sermon and appreciated it so much!! My older sister & my mom are having an awful dispute. I tend to lean a little more to my mom’s side; knowing my sister for the years I have. Mom has not gone into any details of what was said or anything because she doesn’t want any of the rest of the family to have to get involved. The only reason I even know there’s something going on is because I’m around her the most. I have 2 sisters & 1 brother. I do not work because I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1985. I am 48 yrs. old & the sister I’m referring to is 55 yrs. old. I guess I was just trying to be a peacemaker in this situation. I went online to try to find references to honoring your father & mother and stopped to listen to your sermon. My dad passed away 12 years ago but my mom is by no means an old woman!! She turned 80 last December & she can still run circles around me! She’s a very active mom & I’m very happy that she is. After all, who would haul me around & push me in a wheelchair at the mall if she didn’t??! I’ve told her before that there may come a time when we have to get tandem wheelchairs! My goal when we go out somewhere is to get her to cry from laughing so hard!! It’s not difficult! We were all raised in a Christian home with semi-strict parent’s. I have really gotten closer to my God in the last 5-6 yrs. I guess as my body slowly changes, I have more reason than ever to read & worship my Father. And I know He is guiding me every step of the way-
Before I stop, I’d like to tell you I have a wonderful husband of almost 28 years & 2 beautiful daughters. One almost 25 & one 22 in Sept. One is still at home & one lives in Nashville. They are both very good girls who have blessed my life since they were born.
what a comfort!! I’m no longer able to go to my church which I miss SO much. I keep in touch with a lot of the older women there hoping it will cheer their days. They have always prayed for me diligently. They saw me go from the “pretty normal” looking to the point I am now. I love evry one of them like family & miss their hugs so much! Back to the reason of this letterand I’m sorry I’ve rambled on-I just wanted you to know how much I appreciated your sermon. You have a way of presenting things in a very down-to-earth, understandable way. If I lived in Greenwich Village, I know where I’d go to church!! Is it handicapped-accessible??Thank you so much for allowing me to wear your eyes out. I’m sorry if you have any permanent damage to them!!
So much love in Christ,
Carla Andrick
